How to Get a Driving Licence - Category A1
If you've been to a driving school you can operate motorcycles with 125 ccm engines and 11 kW of power on an A1 license. You can also drive three-drive motor vehicles, such as trikes.
You can get an A1 driver's license after the age of 16. You will have to pass a theory and practical test.
What is my driving capability?
With a category A1 licence, you can ride on three-wheeled or two-wheeled mopeds. They are vehicles with an engine capacity of up to 125cc and an output of up to 11kW. This license can also be used to drive a motor tricycle as long as it has the maximum power output of 15 kW. This licence also allows you drive a moped while towing trailer.
If you want to ride a more powerful motorbike, you will require a category AM licence instead. This permits mopeds with a capacity of cylinders up to 125cc, and with a power output of no greater than 35 kW.
Drivers who hold a category C license (which they can get after passing the CPC four-part test) can drive large vehicles with a maximum mass of 3,500kg. This is a lot heavier than the majority of cars and it means that you'll need to be capable of towing quite some distance.
This category is less restrictive than Category C. You can tow a trailer of up to 750kg in this category. This is a good way to test your skills driving larger vehicles prior to taking on the full category C test which is required for those looking to drive HGVs.
Anyone who has experience in the less powerful categories A and A1 will find it much easier to pass the test for category A2, which permits the driving of light motorbikes with an output of up to 35kW. This is called 'grandfathering,' and was created to help drivers get experience with smaller vehicles before attempting to drive a more powerful one. In fact when you have two years of experience with category A1 motorcycles, then you can skip the theory and practical tests, and will only have to take a skills assessment. Age requirements for seniors
In most countries, you can get a driving licence between the age of 16 and 18. After that age the graduated licensing scheme applies. Before a license is granted, it may require that you pass a written test and/or a physical test.
Category A1 entitles drivers to drive motor vehicles that do not have more than 9 seats and with an allowed mass not exceeding 3,500 kilograms (7,700 lbs). This includes motor tricycles and mopeds, which are motorbikes with the maximum engine displacement of 125 cc.
You can also operate a quad bike with an A1 subcategory driving licence as long as the engine displacement is under 250 cc and the power is not more than 15 kW. You can only get A1 category license when it is your first motorcycle licence or if you hold an entire motorcycle license from another category (category A2 or B).
You must pass a theory test to obtain a license. There are a variety of ways to prepare by taking a course at a driving school or completing self-learning training.

You can practise online for the test. You can also enroll in preparatory lessons with an instructor for motorbikes. This will allow you to develop the required skills and lower your chances of failing the test. It is important to remember that the questions you will get on the theory test may not be the identical to the ones you can find online or from your instructor. A1 drivers can drive vehicles up to 8,250kg in mass. You can also drive trailers and motor vehicles combinations with a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of up to 750kg. Before January 19, 2013, a full category B licence was required to operate tricycles and mopeds. Drivers who had an entire Category B licence before 19 January 2013 retain their category AM privileges to tricycles and mopeds as long as they have not received a full Category C licence since that date.
